How the Harden Trade Affects Us

The NBA never sleeps, and neither do we.

Clippers receive

  • James Harden
  • PJ Tucker
  • Some guy I haven't heard of
Philly receive
  • Marcus Morris Sr
  • Robert Covington
  • Nicolas Batum
  • KJ Martin
That's a lot of dudes, so to properly break down how this affects our league, allow me to put the characters into Fast and Furious categories

"Salud Mi Familia" Category
  • PJ Tucker - Harden brought his guy with him from the soon-to-be freezing streets of Philly to sunny Los Angeles. What a guy. And unless the Clippers drop Russ to the bench (which they should but won't do) Tucker falls to us. Now, should you take him? God no. But would I love to drink a Corona with him? Absolutely
  • Robert Covington - RoCo returns to Philly in triumphant fashion as the likely starting replacement for Tucker. Daryl Morey never loses a trade, and he sure didn't lose this one either as he let one of the best 75 players to ever exist in the NBA (who led the league in assists just last season) go exactly where he wanted to go and managed to pry Covington away from the Clippers, a man who didn't play hardly at all last season, and has only played this year to prove he's still a functional trade piece. Do I like RoCo? I guess. Will he do well in Philly? Sure. He should start, so don't get him

"Ejecto Seato cuz!" Category
  • KJ Martin - I had all this hope for Martin bringing youth and athleticism to the Clippers, and there were rumors he might even start. And then three games into his first season with them they kick his ass to the curb. If anyone can make good use of an athletic wing, it's Nick Nurse, so this might be good for Martin and for us
  • Danny Green - Not sure anyone was thinking about picking him up, but in order to open up a roster spot and make this trade work, they had to let Danny go. There's a chance someone picks him up, so keep an eye on it

"When I See You Again" Category
  • Nicolas Batum - Batum is certainly aging, but he's played virtually every position for the Clippers over the last few years, plugging holes and filling in for their countless injuries. He's started, he's come off the bench, he's hardly played, he's been an invaluable member of their wonky-ass team. I think they're gonna miss him

This is Insane Category
  • Russ - It makes absolutely no sense for the Clippers to have Russ and Harden starting. We've seen it not work time and time again. Does that mean anything? No. But did that stop Isaac from driving a car out the back of an airplane and picking him up at 6 o'clock this morning? Also no. We'll be keeping a very close eye on the potential league-wrecker, don't worry

"I said forget about it cuh" Category

  • Marcus Morris Sr - He's 34 and he hasn't played a minute. Things will have to get pretty desperate in Philly for him to see the floor
  • De'Anthony Melton - With Philly trading away a starting guard and not getting one back, Melton is the undeniable starter and will lose eligibility when his two weeks are up, which is in one week
