Free Agent Roundup, Playoff Picture, Some Predictions, and Bonus Stars.
Let’s get it.
Free Agent Roundup The Gabe Vincent Roundup
1. Malaki Branham – Another rookie taking advantage of a weird stretch for a weird team. Since the 17th he’s only played under 20 minutes once, and he’s only scored less than 23 fantasy points once. Last night he put up 20 real deal Holyfield points against Utah. Tonight he plays OKC, just sayin’
2. Ty Jerome – I’m as upset as anybody that Anthony Lamb isn’t the one showing out with all the Warriors’ injuries, but it looks like Ty’s their guy. Since Steph went down he’s averaging 24 minutes, and he’s put up 35 and 29 fantasy points in his last two games. With Steph out for a bit, and Golden State playing Charlotte tonight, Ty’s an excellent pickup
3. Duncan Robinson – If you wanna get in at the ground floor of the Robinson Renaissance, now’s your chance. In his last three games he’s scored 31, 13, and 21 fantasy points, which is actual production! Given, the Heat have been pretty banged up lately. But also given, the Heat are permanently banged up. A risk, but if he’s found his stroke again the Heat need him like oxygen
4. Gabe Vincent – If you’re desperate to get in some South Beach action but you want someone who will neither thrill nor disappoint you: look no further. Gabe’s back from injury and he’s back on this list!
5. Andre Drummond – Hate to say it (not really) but ever since Will dropped him he’s looked good again. After three straight single-digit games, he’s put 12, 11, and 24. In the broken roller coaster that is this Bull’s season, he’s hardly a lock. So hop on now while he’s in form, and get your rebounding numbers up
A Way Too Early Look at The Playoff Bracket
Halfway through the year, which means it’s time to look at the playoff format. We have a winner’s bracket, a loser’s bracket, and a fun little hangout sesh between the two worst teams. In the previous email I was slightly incorrect: all teams do not make the playoffs, just the top eight. But since we have a couple of stragglers at the bottom (not pointing any fingers) it should shake out so that we have four relatively competitive matchups.
As things stand, which I predict (in the segment below) to change, we would have
Will vs Peanut – Will’s scalding hot right now and getting better as Oubre cements his place on the bench and Westbrook doesn’t exactly slow down. A scary team that can only be derailed by some funky lineup changes. Peanut’s a move or two away from having a dangerous lineup (in large part due to Seth Curry being abysmal), but TJ Warren is a stud who could cause some real issues
Cody vs Me – The battle of the shit-talkers. Both 6-4 at Christmas, both think they’re better than they are, neither of them are below some nefarious tactics, this would really be a good one
Steven vs Michael – It’s tough to see what Steven’s team might look like with the strong possibility he loses Wood to the starting lineup soon. And Michael’s never been afraid to make a line change. This would be the toughest one to bet on. And you can bet your sweet ass we’re gonna bet on the playoffs
Daniel vs Isaac – I would hack Daniel’s account to play this one and it still wouldn’t be close unless BP goes nuclear
Some Predictions
I gave some odds last time, so I’m dusting off the old crystal ball and giving prescience a shot.
· Christian Wood starting will drive Steven to blow it up within a month. Keep an eye on Strus, Nance, and Batum
· Cody will trade me Okongwu before Valentine’s Day
· As five of his ten players are cuspers who will be gone in a matter of days, not weeks, Isaac will find himself in a dogfight for first in the West
· The Seeds
- Will
- Me
- Isaac
- Michael
- Cody
- Steven
- Peanut
- Old Man Team
- Daniel
- Kenny
Bonus Stars
· The Hold the Line Bonus Star goes to Kenny, for continuing to not trade any of his players. Can he complete the perfect season? Tune in to find out!
· The Dream is Dead Bonus Star goes to Old Man Team for picking up Joe Ingles just for him to get a whopping -1 points in three games
· The Merry Christmas Bonus Star for scoring the most points on Christmas day goes to Christian Wood for 79. Count your blessings now, Steve
